Today I was registering with a local GP, which was surprisingly easy much to my relief.
I was having problem finding the actual doctors surgery never having been to the area before, so I asked a pharmacist for directions. Her English was excellent and she quickly directed me to the building opposite and said that that was where I needed to be. The building was pretty run down, a grey, concrete block of a building, anything similar would be knocked down in the UK! It seems to be the norm out here to have absolutely stunning buildings one minute only to have a run down building the next. The lift in the building made me laugh as it seemed to just open out into thin air. I actually peeked out of the window to see if there was a lift there. What I saw was a sort of 'lean-to' lift, quite a precarious looking thing to say the least that was just stuck to the outside of the wall. I almost took it just to see how well it worked!
The medical appointment process today was pretty simple. The doctors English was very good and he soon sorted my prescription and ordered me to make a follow up appointment to see a specialist similar to my care in the UK. So off I went to find the hospital to book my follow up appointment expecting to have to wait for correspondence from them. However the nurse simply took out her A4 notebook and found me an appointment for next month. The simplicity of it all was great. I once waited 3 weeks for my Doctors to simply correspond with eachother back in the UK.
